Customer Rating: Summary: A great resource/tool for coping with educational law! Comment: I had to buy this very expensive book for a course that I was taking to complete my school administrator's license. I was annoyed at the cost and the expense incurred for shipping such a heavy book to me (I live overseas). However, I have enjoyed every moment I have spent reading this insightful text. And, interestingly enough, the author of the text turned out to be the professor for the course I had to buy the book for. So, I got added insight from listening to him talk about the contents of the book. The only real drawback of this book is that due to the rapid pace of change in education, it has to be updated every year based on new court cases that surface each year. Thus, if you buy this year's version, you will miss out on next year's supplements. Regardless, if you are an educator, it's definitely worth its weight in gold. A fascinating read as well as an invaluable resource when setting school policy/practice! Customer Rating: Summary: It's a TEXTBOOK, after all. Comment: It's a thorough textbook on school law. The latest edition,to my knowledge.
It was required reading.
The only thing I can add, or advise is that is was a little late arriving, so I missed my reading assignments for the first class.
You may want to consider expedited shipping.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy Comment: This was my second online purchase and everything went well. The book was in perfect condition and arrived when expected.
The Law of Public Education uses 145 carefully selected cases and notes from 2,300 additional cases to illustrate the major principles and issues of contemporary education law. This textbook-casebook provides substantive analysis of topics such as abolition of positions, academic freedom, church-state education relations, discrimination, financing schools, collective bargaining, sexual harassment, affirmative action, workers compensation, and zoning. The fifth edition incorporates important recent developments into the conceptual framework, including a new chapter on the rights of students with disabilities. In addition, citations now include references to West's Education Law Reporter, making it easier for instructors and students to locate cases.
